The Memphis board of health imposes a strict quarantine preventing entry from any direction due to yellow fever. Seven cases reported in Mississippi and additional suspected cases in nearby towns trigger the ban as of September 6.
Since early August seven cats have fallen ill in Taylors and about four in Orwood. Dr. Carter of the Marine hospital visits cases and aligns with the Mississippi board of health. Three cases in Orwood and two in town, no deaths yet. New Orleans quarantine pending investigation as state board acts.
A Winnipeg report claims natives near Dauphin encountered a man who descended from the sky on Hudson Bay shores. Whites think the figure may be the explorer Andrea. The tale appears in a dispersed Times Herald dispatch from Sept 6.
Six bids were opened for supplying 1,000,000 pounds of powder for warships, with Judge Advocate Lemley present. Maria Dittmar heads the powder firm among bidders as the navy seeks ongoing supplies over the next year or two, keeping pace with army costs during the war.

General Kitchener reports the Dervish army routed at Omdurman as British forces pursue the Khalifa’s chiefs. He says the remnant surrendered, with prisoner numbers growing, while the Khalifa and his leader escape with a small retinue toward Khartoum.
