Lisbon Lisboun N Y May 20 A fatal accident near the Stevens home occurs when Mrs. Stevens wife of Hon R N Stevens is shot by an accidental gun discharge while duck shooting at a river behind the house. Mr Stevens mourns, said to be crazed by grief.
The House debated the McKinley tariff bill with the committee of the whole reporting, amendments on duties, and a final order for engrossment. Other dispatches note Windom signing sealing orders for the Bear to warn sailors off sick waters, Olympia railroad news, senate bills advancing, a duel in Vushna, Mrs. Masterson’s death in New York, and other scattered items.
Northwest League results show Minneapolis, Omaha 4 and other scores including Brooklyn 19 Cincinnati 4. Slavin declines to fight McAuliffe and eyes a bout with Sullivan Teckason winner or Jim Corbett for a £1000 stake after recent defeat. New York reports on boxing and baseball results with scattered team tallies and standings.
