Town talks on City of Jamestown candidates as election nears. Mayors and council hopefuls including Mayor Allen Captain Moorhouse Captain Baker Eddie Barrett and Judge Boyle are mentioned as possible contenders with several aldermanic figures noted but no clear opposition.
A San Francisco dispatch reports the steamer Alexander has entered Behring Sea forbidden waters and plans a raid on seal rookeries at the season's start. The vessel carries a sealing outfit, liquor, 40 crew, and weapons, suggesting an unlawful expedition trade.

A massive blast at the Keeler flouring mills in Litchfield devastates the town. The fire, fueled by flour dust, destroys the mill and two grain elevators, killing millwright John Cowles and injuring others. The shock wrecks nearby shops and homes, with losses estimated around 1 million dollars.

Governor Lewelling commissioned J J Shephard to arrest violators of the prohibition law. By 8 a m thirty saloonkeepers were jailed on counts of liquor sales and selling in numbers ranging from ten to five. The move by temperance forces aims to suppress legalized liquor sales despite municipal permits.
Professor John R. Parkinson, assistant professor in civil polity, has accepted a call to the chair of history constitutional law and political science at the Agricultural and Mechanical college in Brookings. The move is effective immediately and follows his work at Madison.
