Mellette Named Dakota Governor and Richardson Secretary

Washington reports the nomination of Arthur C. Mellette of Dakota as governor and Luther B. Richardson as secretary of Dakota. The Senate confined confirmations to follow after early opposition was withdrawn. North Dakota backed Mellette with universal support, while Richardson faced minor regional opposition. Mellette pledged to administer law impartially, without pledges to political factions, and to oversee territory until statehood.
