Reports from Clay City Illinois describe a fatal house fire that left five members of the James family dead. Authorities suspect either the father or a son killed the others before suicide. The incident follows prior threats and alleged insanity connected to whiskey use. The case adds to a string of violent crimes and investigations reported in July.
William McNair of Boston plans to sue for 25000 dollars claiming wrongful confinement by officers of the White squadron led by Admiral Walker during a Boston visit. McNair, a former seaman aboard the yacht Volunteer, variedly faced multiple arrests for desertion before being released. he will present his case to General Butler.
