A steamer crash near Red Wing and Lake Pepin results in extensive loss of life. The Seawing capsized in a fierce storm as it returned from a camp excursion, with estimates of around one hundred thirty dead or missing. Recovery efforts, grim tallies, and funeral processions unfold as authorities note locked cabin doors and chaotic scenes.
A Sunday evening cyclone devastated Lake Gervais and surrounding lakes in the St Paul area. Five people died and many were injured or missing as cottages and boat houses were torn apart. Fire destroyed a large warehouse district in Minneapolis amid extensive damage and many workers were rescued from upper floors. The storm also damaged property and disrupted travel as crowds searched for remains.
The town reports 100 dead from Sunday's disaster as shallow water and heat surfaced corpses. Names of victims, including a 15-year-old boy, Mrs Merrill Green, and others are listed. several still missing. A rescue boat crew ferried bodies to shore. one ring identified Peter Olson born 1822 and 8-12.
