Excursion Steamer Wrecked Off Peoria in Cyclone
A cyclone wrecked the excursion steamer Folsom on Lake Peoria near Peoria Illinois. About sixty passengers were aboard plus crew and boats and many lives are believed lost. Rescuers found several bodies and reported more than a hundred unaccounted persons in boats and cabins. Local officials, including Mayor Warner, organized a rapid response. Names of the dead include Mrs Duisdecker and two Fisher women, Miss Mary Flath, John Ahern, Mary Paeble, and Annie Paeble. Rescue efforts continue as town residents await news.
