It covers the failed railroads chairmanship, rumored speakership shifts, and the double backroom coalition, plus theaterlike interludes, meetings, and rampant political theatrics on Capitol Hill.
St Louis report claims Jay Gould backs the Kansas Nebraska and Dakota railroad later known as the Great North and South line. The plan links Dakota to New Orleans with Gould owning the controlling stake and aims to be his greatest project. About one hundred miles of track are in operation and more right of way is secured. Gould recently bought the Little Rock Fort Smith and Mississippi road to push the route toward Natchez Mississippi.
