A deadly blaze at Barnes, Hongerer & Co dry goods on Pearl Street, New York, started at 1140 this morning. Walls collapsed burying four women. later fronts fell in. Fire spread to neighboring stores causing extensive losses. Total loss around 1,200,000 with insurance covering the claims. Strong talk cites Canadian Pacific government backing and plans to stretch from Winnipeg west to the Missouri, with Manitoba and Soo lines likely joining to Bismarck.
