The Dead Patriot Funeral Plans for General Logan

A fund for Mrs. Logan tops $15,000 with private subscriptions from senators governors and businessmen. Washington sources say a Friday funeral in the senate chamber is planned with interment pending a final site near Rock Creek. Mrs. Logan and family oversee arrangements while Grand Army officers and dignitaries organize guards pallbearers and processions.

Million Dollars in Steamboats and Barges Burned at Cairo

Fire at Cairo Illinois destroyed the Mississippi Valley transportation steamer Hayes and the Anchor line steamer City of Natchez while moored at the bank. Barges loaded with cotton, soda, and sundries also burned. Total loss estimated near one million dollars. Fire raging from the Hayes aft cabin spread quickly aided by gale winds and prevented tugs from saving the fleet.

Fight Night at Woodford Ends with Knockout Victory

A bare knuckle prizefight between Charles Daly of St Louis and Billy Meyer of Streator at Woodford ended in Meyer's victory when Daly was knocked down and unable to rise before time. The bout drew large crowds and gate receipts were noted as part of the night’s action. Also reported are a local wedding and a railroad express robbery case with $8,000 recovered after a confession and Pinkerton action in Leavenworth.
