A river accident on the Red Lake River near Grand Forks ends in a triple drowning. Rev. W F Currie and his daughter Rath Currie and Miss Dora Van Kirk drown after entering the water to aid others. Carrie Currie survives by rescuing another girl. The bodies were recovered two hours later.
Milwaukee authorities link a well on Jacob Bassai’s premises at Burleigh and Sixth to a deadly typhoid outbreak after drinking water contaminated by a nearby source. Two deaths reported and twenty four ill, several critically, as doctors declare little hope for recovery.
Deer Creek Minnesota August 18 a severe destructive storm swept through the region with ten inches of hail. The storm damaged crops wheat and other grains and caused widespread property damage including broken window glass. Harvest had just begun and farmers faced total losses as hail blanketed fields and buildings suffered impact.
Hyron Farnham, injured Sunday after a bucking broncho near Misor North Dakota, died at 10 45 am. He had no known relatives here and was headman for a cattle company of Montana. Jacksonville Fly Aug 19 A ruinous blaze from midnight roared through two blocks by six flames from R D Knight Co grocery to Hubbard building and Tremont hotel. The Seminole club and Dolck faced the blaze as firefighters labored but exhausted materials halted spread. Loss about 1,000,000 with one half reported.
Aug 10 at 1 P M a boat with four artists sketched opposite Cincinnati capsized near the Kentucky shore. Three drowned: Clara Fechheimer 14 daughter of a leading shoe man, Miss Hamburger of Chicago, and Joseph Bloch. Solomons escaped by swimming to shore. They had launched at Baker Rowley’s saw mill in Fulton and likely came from the Cincinnati Art Museum for a boating excursion.
A disastrous blaze in Waco Texas Aug 19 started in the Goldstein Miguel dry goods store as patrons filled the shop. Panic led to injuries from jumping from windows and fires damaged nearby buildings. Estimated losses exceed 300000 with the fire likely sparked by electric light wires. Descrips of a separate Colorado note mention L T Krant hoff and J W Sheax visiting the Yellowstone region during the evening.
Aug 18 reports Alred Lins near Mendotarin digging a well unearthed a thirty foot depth, discovering a lax clay like stone slab, pipe stone beds, muscular fibre ornaments, about twenty coins from 1815 to 1824, a silver buckle, six metal buttons with H D G inscriptions. Aug. 1 The acting Indian affairs commissioner told Secretary of the Interior to approve removal of the Chippewa to White Earth. Cash payments will be made to all Indians who relocate or take allotment.

Burglars entered Lewis Bros. & Linden store at Lake Preston and stole about 500 dollars in goods. The next night one burglar was captured, the other fled under fire. He was later found about a mile away and after a two hour search was arrested with white resistance.
Three men attacked John Roberts of Elwood near Benton on Tuesday, knocked him down, beat his head, robbed his watch and money, leaving him fatally injured. The incident remains under investigation.
Police report a living death case in Duluth Minnesota where an old man was found in a filthy room, chained and starved. Detectives and the United Press bureau traced the incident to a family trust and alleged deliberate attempted murder through prolonged abuse and beating. The victim, once prosperous, lived with fear and neglect, while investigators sought charges against those responsible.
A brutally mutilated body of Dennis Me Cup, a prominent Rockford citizen, was found in the river at Racvk Wisconsin Aug 19. The corpse, unclothed with a severed leg, shows deep knife wounds and throat cuts. authorities suspect foul play possibly tied to a river accident or a violent crime. Me Cup, 50, was believed to carry money and had planned to return home next morning. The coroner conducts a full investigation into the case.
Wabena Minnesota August 19 a severe hail storm swept Otter Tail county and nearby areas causing extensive damage. Estimates indicate 12 000 to 15 000 bushels of grain lost and wealth destruction around 300 000. The storm lasted about half an hour and carved a five mile wide path. Freight trains collided near Alexandria with derailed engines and limited injuries. Cardinal Gibbons arrives Milwaukee with Rome pallium for Archbishop Karger scheduled for Thursday morning.
