Still uncertain as the Sioux conference ponders the steady pressure policy and treaty terms. Sitting Bull arrives in a disgusted mood and Red Cloud opposes the treaty while chiefs debate clauses and food rations at the agencies.
It was reported that a group seeking to depress the face value of American money failed. In Belgrade King Milan asked the consistory for a legal separation from Queen Nathile, amid political shifts and unsettled royal matters.
The Senate resumed the sundry civil appropriation bill debate in Washington. Spooner’s amendment to allocate 75 000 for a public building at Atchison Kansas was rejected 21 to 23. An amendment on prison labor supplies for the national soldiers home was rejected. Stewart proposed barring use of funds for mining region prosecutions or timber handling. Call supported a 100 000 discretionary grant for United States property recovery.
