Rhode Island's largest ever turnout produced a Republican majority in the legislature, pending joint-ballot votes to choose state officers. Governor Brown led the governor race with 28,187 votes to War dell’s 22,072. other candidates had smaller totals.
Mrs. Annie Margaret Montague was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of her 3 year old daughter Helen and cruelty to her other children. She was remanded for sentencing after a Dublin trial following a change of venue from Londonderry due to religious tensions. The crown presented only coroner's evidence showing the child died by hanging after being bound and choked. Defense admitted neglect but claimed innocence on manslaughter.
The Missouri, a British-flag steamer commanded by Captain Finley, arrived with a vast American donation of wheat and grain for starving Russian peasants.
