Surrender of Nez Perce Chief Joseph Ends Major Old Coon Pursuit

The dispatch from Fort Shaw reports Miles rapid march into Snake Creek country. The Nez Perce camp was surprised near Bear Paw. seventeen of the Indians were killed, including Looking Glass's kin, and about forty wounded. Chief Joseph reportedly pledged surrender but did not, while Terry warns of possible Sioux aid and contemplates sending wounded to Missouri and stock to Yellowstone. Several officers and soldiers are listed among the dead and wounded.
