Telegraphed from St Paul to Bismarck reports amid Rio Grande troubles. Dispatches from Paris and Berlin note Circassian uprisings, Danube movements, and Turkish fires amid Russian advances in Asia Minor. storms, shipyard tragedy, and fires supplement the chaotic war and border reports.
An active levee scene reports five barges under construction for the Yellowstone work and several boats loading and unloading. The Key West from Benton notes river rise at inch per hour, with heavy cargoes of silver ore and furs aboard and many river travelers en route, as Benton and Fort Benton trips proceed and boats like the Union and J. Dor Cameron navigate the swollen Missouri River amid wrecks and snags.
A stream of visitors and officers arrives in the city including Major E H Alden from Fort Berthold and Lt G Mathey en route to Yellowstone. An ordinance of the City of Bismarck validates Levi N. Griffin's claim to Lot No. 18 in Block 4 of the 50th Ward and authorizes the mayor and city clerk to execute and deliver a deed of conveyance to Griffin or his assigns under Dakota Territory townsite laws approved February 1, 1877 and amended May 19, 1877.
