Black Hills report details a surveying party led by Peter Seims mapping a territorial road from Bismarck to Deadwood. Using odometer and chain, they trimmed the California Joe trail to 220 miles, deeming the route the best natural road seen. They encountered Crazy Horse en route to surrender but were not disturbed. Mining season opens with rich diggings and new discoveries. staged travel will resume regular trips after this week. Gardner notes call for vegetable plants from Mr. Croswell with free variety references.
Seven coaches carried passengers from Bismarck to Deadwood on Sunday while nineteen Stage Company freighters left on Monday. George Wilson refy Grand River Saturday and Hills again on Monday with stations set along the route for occupancy. The latest cut ever leaves Grand River station at one side and Mr. Wilson thin be necessary to move it.
The Northwestern Express and Transportation Company bets on the Bismarck overland line to Deadwood and the Black Hills, with 12 Concord coaches, 160 horses, stockades for safety, and stations along the route. Through time Chicago to Deadwood about 84 hours, fare from Chicago to Deadwood listed, freight and emigrant services emphasized, plus equipment and rates compared with Sydney and Cheyenne paths.
