Combat Soldier Pay Exempt From Taxes
Internal Revenue Service clarifies that enlisted military pay for active service in a designated combat zone after June 24 1959 is exempt from federal income tax. The exemption covers months spent in the combat zone, with limits lower than WWII rules and not applicable to pay outside the combat zone. If the service member enters the zone on the last day of a month, that month’s pay qualifies under the new law.
