Edward Cardwell Pioneer Stockman Dies at 86 in Montana
Edward Cardwell, who arrived in Montana in 1873 and mined gold at Alder Gulch before becoming a cattleman, died in Billings at age 83 after influenza and pneumonia complications. A strong figure in southern Montana, he built a herd in 1874 and moved his life overland to Sweet Grass county, later homesteading near Columbus. Surviving: two daughters and several grandchildren.

Billings Boy Taken for Ride and Robbed
In Billings Montana on September 16 an 18 year old delivery boy Thomas Kay was abducted by a Mexican gunman who forced him to drive to a remote spot seven miles away. He was beaten robbed and left unconscious with a crushed skull. Kay was found by an oil truck driver and rushed to a hospital where he regained consciousness briefly before slipping into a coma. His left head injury and right side paralysis left his condition grave.

Body of Fisherman Recovered After Raft Accident
Kalispell, Sept. 15 The body of Dan Brion, 65, Kalispell, was recovered today from the Flathead river after a fishing raft overturned. His companion, T. M. Wheeler and family escape serious injuries after car crash
United States Senator Burton K. Wheeler and his family survived a car wreck 24 miles west of Glasgow. The senator sustained a head injury and a concussion, with his wife and children also injured but improving. A rear tire blew causing the sedan to overturn twice. Charley Dawley aided and they were rushed to a physician in Hinsdale and then Glasgow. They planned to rest and proceed to Williston and Washington after the vehicle is repaired.
