Mr and Mrs Carl Aksdal and their son left Friday morning for Sacramento California after spending a week visiting at the Oscar Vik home Mrs Vik and Mrs Aksdal are sisters.
Missoula resident Missoula-Lawrence O Bleness, 34, of Libby remained in serious condition at St Patrick's Hospital after surgery to remove a bullet. He was wounded Monday while elk hunting 30 miles west of Missoula in the Cedar Log lake area when a companion, mistaking the horse for an elk, fired. The .300 Savage bullet ricocheted from the saddle tree into his hip. he was flown out of the mountains by ambulance helicopter from Missoula Monday afternoon.
Big Timber Boy Scouts will run the downtown tag day to support the Montana Association for the Blind. Proceeds fund a free five week summer school for the adult blind at Montana State College Bozeman costing about 300 dollars per student. The 18th session closed July 15 with 29 students from multiple towns.
Dana Strobel Ed Schilling John Faw and Ronnie Boe attended an FFA officers training school in Belgrade Tuesday. Seventy officers and instructors joined a turkey banquet served by Belgrade FHA girls before assembling in Belgrade High School study hall for addresses by state officers Basil Ashcraft and H E Rodeberg. The event closed with a skit on proper FFA dress and sectional officer meetings.
Championship Sports, Inc. sets $100 ringside for Floyd Patterson vs Sonny Liston title bout at Comiskey Park Chicago. Local fans will view via closed circuit cable TV at no extra charge, while cable company covers about $350 in rights and microwave costs. Rights sold to Big Timber Cable TV from Tele-PromTer of NYC.
Charles B. McComb of the McComb family left for Oakland to resume duties in the U S Navy after visiting relatives. Gary Refsland enlisted in the Navy, reported to Butte for a physical, then traveled to Salt Lake City and flew to the naval training base in San Diego California for training.
Karl Julian Helvik 69 died Saturday at his Big Timber area ranch after years of illness. Funeral service was held Tuesday at the Big Timber Lutheran Church with Rev. Ocee Johnson officiating. Surviving are his widow Sofia, six sons Jacob H and Julian Helvik Jr of Big Timber, Sigmund Sidney Hans of Livingston and Carl of Helena, nine grandchildren, a brother Omund, and a host of relatives. He was born July 12, 1893 in Helvik Norway and came to Montana in 1924.
Student salesmen at Curtis High School raised 1530 in the first week. Shirley Kjarmo led with 84 in sales and earned a jewelry box. She also won a $5 daily drawing for hitting the 13 quota. Two subscriptions earned ice cream party via J G Holman Curtis representative. Each dollar sold earned a credit toward special prizes.
Mrs. Theo Grumm travels with her mother Mrs John Larson and companions Jerry McKay and Robert Nucey. They left Sunday by car for Pine Island Minnesota to visit Mrs Larson's sister for three to four days before continuing to Dalesville Alabama to spend two weeks with Mike Grumm and family. Mike serves in the Army in Alabama.
Mrs Ella Adam appointed president of the Sweet Grass county unit of the American Cancer Society with Mrs Ed Holmberg succeeding as memorial chairman. She notes year round work in research education and aid and invites contributions through either woman for memorials or other donations.
Emil Johnson died early Monday at Community Hospital after a stroke. Born in 1880 in Flekkefjord Norway he came to Montana in 1898 and lived in Melville Great Falls and Big Timber. Survived by his widow a son two daughters six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren a brother and sister in Norway. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm from Lowry Chapel with Rev Ocee Johnson officiating. Burial Mountain View.
Remains of four Austrian soldiers killed in World War I, frozen in ice for 46 years, were recovered on a 10,700 foot peak in the Adamello Range in Trent Italy. The same mountain yielded two other Austrian soldiers last week.
The Lions club offers two $50 first prizes in a letter-writing and photo contest. Entries due November 17 to secretary Clive Haas. Submissions become Lions property and will appear in Big Timber brochures.
Twenty three T-Bone CowBelles held a directors and officers fall meeting in Columbus on Sept. 12 with Mrs. John Yost as president and Mrs. Howard Hanson as secretary. They discussed upcoming events and invited all directors, officers and members to a state meeting in Livingston on Sept. 26 and the annual fall meeting in Big Timber on Oct. 9. Miss Beulah Joan Lomeland wed Earl Arthur Harris at Harris Litheran Church with Rev. Ocee Johnson officiating. The bride wore a floor length nylon lace gown with seed pearls and quins, a fingertip veil, and carried a bouquet. A duet sang as garden flower sprays adorned the altar.
KOOK TV will air a one hour program titled The Road to Button Bay on Monday Sept 24 from 7 to 8 pm. The film covers the 1962 Girl Scout Senior Roundup at Button Bay Vermont and is presented by General Foods for the 50th anniversary. Narrator Garry Moore.

The Sweet Grass Republican Women’s Club met Tuesday evening at Roquet cafe. Teenagers performed a voter registration skit. County Attorney O J Paulson explained two fall referendums and election laws.
About 100 relatives and friends gathered at the Lutheran Parish hall to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hanson’s twenty fifth wedding anniversary. The event featured a Bible reading, prayers, songs by James and Cindy Hanson, and a short talk by Orvin Flare. Guests included out of town mourners and family from Guam, Ryegate, Laurel, Billings, Reed Point, Absarokee, and Big Timber.
Stanley Jacobson 48 prominent Big Timber businessman died Friday morning from a heart attack after breakfast while reading a paper. Rites held at Big Timber Lutheran Church with full military honors by Sweet Grass post 19. Interment Mountain View. Born April 6 1914 Crosby North Dakota he served in WWII and lived in Stanley before relocating.
Chuck Nicholson, who bought City Club Lanes from Edw. Sell a year ago, announced this week the sale of the alley and lounge to Mr. and Mrs. George Fox of Billings. Possession transfers October 1. The Foxes have two grown children. a son in Billings and a daughter at Montana State University. Chuck seeks employment.
