Jaycees Begin Year with Community Projects and Visits
The Big Timber Jaycees with 42 members plan monthly and bi monthly meetings. They donate five dollars monthly for nine months to fund the grade school milk program. They travel to Livingston to assist a membership drive and kick off the doll safety project for first three grades. An orientation night is set for Monday November 4 with a Dutch lunch at the Legion hall. They sponsor the home football broadcasts with a loud speaker system at the field. An important Jaycee directors meeting is scheduled for Monday September 23.

Episcopal Women Meet Here Tuesday in Big Timber
District 10 Episcopal Church Women including Manhattan Bozeman Livingston and Big Timber held their annual meeting in Big Timber with a Communion service at St. Mark's. A luncheon in Dallman hall followed and Mrs H Beecher Chambers presided in the afternoon. A speaker from the Episcopal Women's Auxiliary Montana spoke after the business session. Steensland 20 of Wenatchee Washington was sentenced by Judge George J Allen to one year in the state penitentiary at Deer Lodge after pleading guilty to first degree burglary He admitted to burglaries at Erv s Bar and the A W Miles Co and officers found tires from Mrs Amelia Beley in his car duties led to his arrest and the judge noted no prior record Sheriff Kenneth Thompson escorted him to the prison this morning

Two Arrests for Drunk Driving Led to Fines
Two motorists faced fines for drunk driving this week. Hugh Pondexter of Bozeman pleaded guilty and was fined 150 dollars plus 10 dollars for no license, with jail at 2 dollars daily. Delbert Mizner of Molt received identical fines after arrest west of Big Timber. Calvin Tinsley and Roger Brooking, both 18, cited for minors with beer, each fined 27.50. Lawrence Sather released after posting a 10 dollar bond for being drunk and dis orderly.

Community milk program funded by local groups in Big Timber
The Big Timber public school milk fund, previously sponsored by the Woman's Club with aid from the Montana State Tuberculosis Association, did not receive support this year. Funds were redirected to tuberculosis skin testing. Volunteers and several local clubs agreed to donate monthly to sustain milk for 104 participating children, with last year 805 gallons consumed and milk priced at 5 cents a day.

An ex serviceman from Wilmington Massachusetts, Darrell Ashdown, 22, was struck and thrown 40 feet on U S 10 west of Reed Point while cleaning his windshield in a heavy snow. He suffered pelvis and leg fractures and other cuts and was taken to Stillwater Community hospital in undetermined condition. The soil bank base to be set for each farm under the 1958 acreage reserve aims to limit harvested crop area to curb surpluses, says Leo S. Kolstad, state ASC officer. Base crops cover most harvest crops excluding hay and include grains, oilseeds, beets, potatoes, vegetables, peas and beans. County ASC committees will compute bases from 1956 57 history, and payment depends on staying within base minus reserves. Wheat growers must sign by October 4 to join the winter wheat reserve, with payments around 18.13 dollars per acre adjusted for farm productivity.
