Democratic and other candidates for District 7 met the public at Frye’s Cafe to discuss views and qualifications for the constitutional convention. Tom Findley moderated as about thirty residents listened to local candidates Mrs Richard Janice Counter Martha S Herlein Elizabeth Betsy Scanlin and Harold Voight. Funeral services were held September 9 for Johan Stole 67 at Galen Montana. Lowry Funeral Home directed with Rev Eugene Nilsen officiating burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Stole was born April 18 1904 in Hauge Dalane Norway and moved to Big Timber Montana in 1929 to work for A M Grosfield and others.

Big Timber Herder football edged Columbus 20 to 18 to start Midland Empire Conference play. Dennis Henthorn rushed 66 yards for the first score as Big Timber built a 14 point lead, while Columbus tallied twice in the second half but failed on extra points. Big Timber totaled 230 rushing yards to 128 for Columbus and 107 to 32 in passing. strong defensive play from John Elgen, Coad Tyler, and Bill Hanson helped seal the win.
