Hartsell McCain, 20, of Atkins, lay paralyzed for eight days at the canyon bottom 28 miles south of Jasper,Ark. He survived on rain water while insects fed on him until woodsman Morland Dodson found him. Dr J W Sexton warned recovery doubtful due to back injury from the fall.

Gen. John J. Pershing marked his eighty first birthday in Paris as aide Capt. George E. Adamson reported the general had completed about 90 percent of his memoirs. Pershing took the manuscript to France and has worked on it over three years hoping to finish early next year detailing his life up to the World War. He previously wrote My Experiences in the World War in 1931.

Deputy Sheriff Tom Marley of Gallatin County was shot in the side but not seriously wounded Friday night in Bozeman. The assailant, Dyas Rollins of Dillon, had robbed a service station and a Livingston woman before Bozeman officers halted him. Rollins was wounded in the leg and taken to a hospital. his condition was described as not seriously hurt.

Albert Kasky 28 of Anaconda died from injuries after his car left the highway and plunged 339 feet down Flint Creek hill eight miles east of Philipsburg. Enrollees at a CCC camp nearby aided his transfer to a hospital in Anaconda. The death raises Montana's year to 94 in traffic toll.
