Last rites for Emil Adam 97 uncle of Ed Adam and frequent visitor at the Adam home in Big Timber were held at St. Mark's Episcopal church. Adam died in St Ignatius hospital after a ten month illness of Parkinson disease and heart trouble. Burial was in Mountain View. He was born April 24 1860 in Alton Illinois and lived in Montana since 1884 engaging in sheep raising carpentry welding and blacksmithing. Surviving are three nephews Emil W Adam Edward N Adam and Col Harry Kirby and two nieces Mrs Eline A Warner and Mrs Katharine Stroup.
Floyd G. Tollefson 71 died in Miles City of a heart attack. A native of Missouri, he moved to Miles City around 1900 and earlier ran taverns in Miles City and nearby towns. He and partners once owned the Grand Hotel and Bar, later selling to Gene Spilde in 1945.
Livingston Enterprise reports a Kiwanis club symposium on depredations to farms by hunters. John Evans cites two shoots blamed on misidentification and notes road hunting and unlawful acts across Yellowstone valley farms, with some farmers still allowing hunting by request.
Miss Nellie Arlene Coughlin daughter of Mrs Lucy Coughlin and Darrell Hill son of Mrs Virginia Burke were united in marriage this afternoon at the EUB church with Rev J D Lindley officiating. Attending were Miss Juanita Fallang Robert Nevin and David Schmitz. A wedding dance at Eaton's Inn follows tonight.
The fourth Fraser Hereford Sale will be held Friday starting at 12 30 p m at the Fraser ranch 17 miles east of Big Timber on highway 10. Lunch will be served at 11 30. Offerings include 65 bulls five females 45 yearlings 20 bull calves and several club steel prospects.
Ted Westin district governor for district 37 A Lions International will speak at the Big Timber Lions Club on October 29 at 7:30 pm. He will advise club officers on administration and humanitarian service programs while sharing Lions values and community programs. Westin, of Chinook, oversees 13 220 Lions clubs and 556 000 members worldwide.
Alban Roemer told Lions club members that U S Steel is exploring iron deposits near Iron Mountain and has asked the forest service to build a temporary access road up the Stillwater. He noted a possible permanent route might rise along the Boulder side. The club urged state railroad officials to halt two fast NP trains, a request previously refused. Art Jensen showcased Flaming Arrow Scout Camp near Bozeman and hikes to local lakes and peaks.
George Lavold bagged a large bull moose near West Boulder on Sunday. Terry Gallentine shot a fine goat in Sweet Grass canyon Monday. Lavold, with Wayne Faw, hauled the moose out with a Jeep. Terry, with Clarence Gallentine, tagged goat No. 18 and 180 pounds dressed, after a 400-yard heart shot and a rugged pack out from Moose Lake to Brannin ranch.
The Lions club plans its annual ladies night banquet at the Legion hall on Tuesday October 29 at 7 30 pm with Legion Auxiliary serving. Dr Vernon Standish and Chas Nicholson head the entertainment committee. Ted Westin district governor will give a short talk. Members and guests should notify the committee of expected attendees.
Montana Highway Patrol confirms 65 mph daytime speed limit remains legal and in effect. Billings justice of the peace E F Collins argued no statutory basis existed. the board rebutted the claim, noting a 25 percent drop in fatal accidents and describing the limit as a key enforcement tool.
The American Legion and Auxiliary hold their annual membership dinner at the Legion hall this Saturday night. All members partners and prospective members invited. Potluck dinner begins at 7 with entertainment games and fun.
Mr and Mrs Emil Hauge sold Eddie s Cafe to Mr and Mrs Kenneth Blackwell with possession on November 1 The Hauges had owned and run the cafe for fifty years.
The Sheepherders overwhelmed the Columbus Cougars by scoring 33 points in the second half after a tight first half. Voges Myers and Boe led scoring with multiple touchdowns and strong blocking as Big Timber pulled away in the third and fourth quarters. Next conference game is Friday November 1 against the Roundup Panthers.
Miss Marion Goakey and Thelmar Aalgaard united in a 2 PM Sunday ceremony at Big Timber Lutheran church with Rev. Ocee Johnson officiating. Attendants included matron of honor Mrs. June Ewan and best man Johnny Aalgaard, with out-of-town guests from Billings, Miles City, Bozeman, and Manhattan.

The Big Timber Jaycees run a drive to collect ice skates for children at the Children's Home in Twin Bridges. Leader Norman Starr and Dr. Vernon Standish urge donations of new or used skates, to be left at the Montana Power office within 30 days.
At a day long Corps of Engineers hearing in Missoula about the Paradise dam Governor Aronson and two former governors led roughly 100 witnesses opposing the project. Proponents around 60 witnesses argued for flood control and economic benefits though leaders pledged to assess feasibility before deciding. The debate included sharp exchanges between Bonner and Erickson over party positions and past dam rulings.
