Martin De Vries, Long Beach Municipal Court judge, recalls a Sunday rescue near McLeod and Big Timber on July 7 1957. A panel truck with dairy wording stopped to aid him and a boy claimed to be twelve. he asks Mrs. Allman to identify the helpful woman.
Lions club funded art and engraving for a new emblem on envelopes. Doris Fogler designed the outstanding work and also the arm waving figures at Angles Corner. Livingston W Warren E Blasdel 77 retired carpenter and poultry raiser died Monday Sept 30 at Warm Springs after a long illness. The body will go to Lincoln Neb for funeral and Wyuka Cemetery burial. He was born Sept 26 1879 in Champaign Illinois and lived in Montana Grey Cliff Reed Point before moving to Livingston in 1936. Survived by two sisters Mrs Lorena Eichenour and Miss Etta Grace Blasdel of Lincoln.
Despite chilly weather the Huidekoper running deer shoot drew spectators on Sunday. Teddy Thompson won the grand trophy, an engraved Bulova wrist watch, with a 9 of 10 score. Relay winners included Louis Goesey, Don Pudwill, George Lavold, Ole Solberg, Kenneth Thompson, Teddy Thompson, Norris Johnson, Nels Olin and Dorothy Traver.
The public service commission sets a second hearing on Mountain States Telephone rate increases for November 18 at 10 a m and Montana Power Co electricity price rise hearing for November 12 both in the House chambers at the capitol. Hearings allow interested parties to cross examine witnesses and present evidence.
The Sheepherders host the Harlowton Engineers on the Big Timber field in a marquee clash. Harlo enters with 26 wins in 27 games and a three year unbeaten stretch while Sheepherders have two recent wins against the Engineers, 13 12 in 1952 and 27 20 the following year. A large Harlowton crowd is expected for the annual showdown, the local game of the year.
Mrs. Robert Brownlee was elected president of the Sweet Grass County Home Demonstration Council at a court house meeting Friday. Other officers named were Mrs. August Pullman vice president Mrs. Sid Huyser secretary-treasurer and Mrs. Sid Fraser historian. Committees on safe driving cleanup and health were appointed by President Ole Solberg with chairs and members listed. Program topics include time management easy housework flower planting quick meals sewing shortcuts stain removal refinishing furniture and copper enameling.
D J McCausland, Forsyth Independent, wonders about writing topics and rejects the national integration row favoring state rights. He jokes about Asiatic flu myths, Calvert's colic and Century Club croup, then confesses having the flu with a headache and a dislike for both major parties.
Clarence McMahan 53 formerly of Melville and Big Timber died in Woodburn Oregon from asthma and heart disease. He served in World War II with the 882nd field artillery and was active in the American Legion. Funeral services were held at the Big Timber Lutheran church with military rites by Sweet Grass post 19. Survivors include his widow a Newark New Jersey daughter a Riverside California sister and two brothers.
Lawton Oklahoma reports Buffalo from Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge fail to sell as zoos and parks take few, leaving 130 to be disposed. A live buffalo under two years costs 125 dollars with dressing extra.
Pedro Trevino, 45, remained in a hospital Monday with back injuries after an ambulance driver yanked him from a 40 foot crevasse in a creek bed. He said he tired Sunday night while walking home and began to sit on a bridge railing that had collapsed leaving no guard.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Severance left Tuesday morning for a short vacation trip to Salt Lake City and nearby areas.
The Montana highway commission announced bids will be opened October 24 for an 11.78 mile project on Highway 10 in Park County. The job from Springdale west includes grading graveling bituminous surfacing and draining to be completed in 400 calendar days.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Legion hall on Wednesday October 16 from noon to 4 PM. In September Sweet Grass county donated eleven pints to St. Vincent's and Deaconess hospitals in Billings, aided by county residents. The drive aims for 70 pints requiring about 100 registrations, with appoint ments handled by the recruiting committee and Mrs A R McDonnell. If no appointment is possible donors may drop in between noon and 4 PM.
Sweet Grass County Farm Bureau will hold its annual dinner and meeting at the Legion hall on Oct 24 at 7 pm with entertainers and officer elections for the coming year. Delegates to the state convention will be chosen and delegate instructions approved.
Huntley Project wins 13 to 7 over Big Timber Sheepherders in a cold wet class B football game. Roy LaBard, Cliff Balzer, Jim McClaine and Roger Weinzeil contributed scoring setup plays. Standouts included Natts Lambrecht Kimble Kikosa, while Voges Myers Mothershead led Big Timber efforts.
The State Board of Health will run a free diagnostic clinic for children under 21 with handicapping conditions on Wednesday October 30 at Deaconess Nurse's Home in Bozeman. Children from Gallatin, Sweet Grass, Park and Meagher counties may attend upon local referral. The event features orthopedist and pediatrician exams and includes TB testing in Sweet Grass County funded by the Montana Tuberculosis Association.

Paul W. Huffman of Anderson Indiana was arrested Saturday by Sheriff Kenneth Thompson for being intoxicated in a public place and fined twenty five dollars, serving the sentence in jail.
Kathryn M Norman and Donald E DeCock wed at St Joseph s church with double ring ceremony. The couple will reside on the DeCock Melville ranch after a honeymoon following reception at Frye s cafe. Paul Orcutt of Montana State College will discuss increasing farm flock production and Dr J Robert Dynes will cover the lamb carcass. A dinner and meeting follow. The next day at 1 p m the annual sale of over 500 Targhee ewes and rams will happen at the Billings Livestock Commission Co. G Curtis Hughes of Stanford is president and Arvid Larson of Big Timber is treasurer.
Twenty New Guinea natives at Okana hospital are said to be laughing themselves to death from the Kuru laughing disease. The illness, likely inherited, is among the world’s rarest and fatal in most cases. A hospital official reported the walls shake as hysterical laughter erupts.
