The eighth annual Montana State fair in Helena closes with praise from attendees. The event showcases diverse county displays, livestock, grains, and handiwork, drawing attention from railroad promotion cars bound for eastern shows. T. G. Shipton and B. J. Kleinhesselink led the exhibit, highlighting Montana's agricultural wealth and potential.
Local parties have received letters seeking information on the ceded Crow Indian lands to be sold at auction in Billings on the 15th. Reports say hundreds are asking at land offices and through Judge Witten who will conduct the sale. A vacant lot will host the auction likely lasting ten days with a minimum price of $2 per acre.
National forest service opens ranger examinations for Oct 23 and 24 with postings in j county and at multiple Montana locations including Anaconda Bozeman Great Falls Helena Missoula and Kalispell. Salary starts at 1100 dollars yearly with 400 positions anticipated. applicants must be US citizens and often residents of the forest area.
Receipts show western range cattle at 24000 this week versus 25000 prior and 27500 a year ago. C N Cosgrove of the Minnesota state fair, visiting Helena, says Montana’s county exhibits surpass all others he has seen. He praises Deer Lodge for grasses and urges permanent fair buildings and state funding, noting Minnesota will seek 2 million dollars to repay bonds and expand facilities.
The Montana Supreme Court, in an appeal from Carbon county, finds the Northern Pacific guilty of violating the sixteen hour limit but reverses on sufficiency of evidence. The decision leaves the law's constitutionality undecided. The case involved a railroad employee forced to work beyond sixteen hours without rest.
