The district court finished its first term in over two years with one civil and one criminal trial. The civil suit J. J. Life of James B. Elliott Opens With Humble Far Northwest Rise
James B. Elliott, born in Scotland and arriving penniless in 1882, became a leading stockman in Montana. He died at about 75 at his ranch 35 miles north of the Musselshell county seat after building a vast sheep and livestock business from a tent town start in Billings and Lavina.

Admiral William Sims Dies in Boston at 77
Admiral William B. Sims former wartime commander of the American fleet in European waters died in Boston at his daughter's home from a heart attack. He would have been 78 next October 15. He had undergone an operation in June and seemed to be improving. He was known as a critic of US naval methods but often won support from superiors.

Bud Hanson a pioneer of lower Sweet Grass died Monday after a long cancer illness at his ranch home. Funeral service was held at the Lutheran church with Elder J L McConaughey presiding and burial at Mountain View. Born February 19 1868 in Cruso North Carolina he moved to Montana as a child and spent 32 years on his Sweet Grass ranch a noted farmer and Christian family man survived by wife three brothers a sister and a half sister.

First White Woman at Great Falls Dies at 86
Mrs. Martha Edgerton Plassman widow of Theodor Plassman and former leader of the Great Falls Leader died at her daughter's home in Great Falls at age 86. Born in Ohio she came to Montana in 1863 and settled after multiple visits and marriage. She ran the Leader after her first husband’s death, later worked in insurance, and wrote extensively on Montana history. She taught music and contributed to the Montana Historical Library. mother of seven with 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Ducks stamps for the 1936 migratory bird season are on sale at Big Timber post office. The season runs October 10 to November 8 with hunting hours 7 am to 4 pm. All hunters 16 and older must carry a federal hunting license stamp with their name written on it. Stamps cost $1 and can be bought at post offices. Shotguns limited to ten gauge fired from the shoulder and plugged with a one piece filler to three shells total.
