A court fight seeks to stop including a Slough Creek trail area in the Absaroka Wilderness. The suit by Sweet Grass and Park Counties names the United States and agency officials, with 60 days given to answer, potentially delaying a decision until after the new year.
Two wild dogs attacked three horses at the John Phariss Ranch northeast of Big Timber injuring an Arabian worth 3,000 dollars. A male Husky German Shepherd mix and a female German Shepherd mix were later shot after showing no fear of humans. The Pharisses suspect dogs have been roaming wild since last summer near their herd five miles northeast of Big Timber on Howie Road.
District Judge Jack Shanstrom ruled the May zoning change from A to B for a half block in Moore addition southwest Big Timber is valid. The decision clears the way for Sweet Grass Village an elderly housing complex on 8th Avenue behind the Pioneer Home. Robert Johnson Billings contractor had secured 418000 in government funds for the project after Duncan and Gladys Cunningham challenged the rezoning.
A joint evening of band music by the Big Timber High and Grade schools takes the SGHS gym stage tonight at 8 p m. The program features the High School Concert Band Stage Band Grade School Band and Beginning Band with traditional and popular pieces culminating in Brand ywine Creek a mass band piece for the Bicentennial. Admission costs 1 50 for adults 1 for students and 50 cents for elementary students Proceeds support year round band activities including the Pep Band. A Christmas Concert by the school choirs follows on December 16.
Advanced sale tickets for the Billings Central Invitational basketball tournament are available at the SGHS office for November 26 and 27. Adult tickets cost 3 dollars and student tickets 2.50 in advance. The traveling squad of 12 includes returning lettermen and seniors Kevin McCauley Steve Elgen Jay Graham Matt Petaja Dan Luttschwager and others as they prepare for the 1976-77 season opener against Sundup.

Daryl Beam and Peter F. Nichol were sent to Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge after pleading guilty to drug and DUI charges. Beam faces a 45 day prison evaluation with deferred imposition of sentence and three years of probation supervised by the State Board of Pardons. About 76 marijuana plants and gear were seized in Sweet Grass County, valued at over 10000 dollars, marking the county’s largest live marijuana haul. Nichol received a one year sentence for DUI fourth offense, linked to a November 9 accident near the mile bridge on Highway 298.
Six turkeys weighing 16 to 20 pounds were awarded in a Big Timber sponsored drawing. Winners named include Johnny Viets, June Surface, Rilda von Olnhausen, David Holycross, Montie Riter and Shirley Bowden. The Pioneer supplied the birds and winners were notified by telephone after the drawing.
Tomorrow at 7 30 p m the Union Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Congregational Church at Fourth and Anderson. Rev Eugene Nilsen of the Big Timber Lutheran Church will deliver the message with each minister taking part. A coffee hour follows in the church social hall. Sponsoring churches include Evangelical Lutheran St Mark s Episcopal St Joseph s Catholic The Assembly of God and Congregational.
