Big Timber volunteer firefighters plan to canvass tonight with about 40 marchers for Muscular Dystrophy Association funds. Jim Schneider urges generous donations to fund research, clinics, and patient services as MD remains fatal for many children. He notes past vaccine success fuels hope for MD cures.
Mrs. Paul Carter of Bozeman visited the Vaughns for the weekend. Elmer Stole bought a ranch near St. Ignatius and left late last week to take possession.
The Sweet Grass County Federation of Women's Clubs held a Tuesday meeting in the library basement with guests from Kent Community Bridger Creek Federated Good Neighbor Three Rivers Rancherettes and Reed Point Memorial Library clubs. President Mrs Arne Grosfield led the session which started at 10 30 a m District president Mrs Joe Enrico of Billings spoke and Clive W Haas discussed a membership drive and hospital committee. A noon potluck featured entertainment by Carla Mona and Donald Wulff.
Deborah Bloomer two percent year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Clayton Bloomer of Kent Washington was treated for a fractured leg at Community hospital Friday. The accident happened when a car carrying the Bloomer family and four children struck a deer on the highway about five miles west of town, driving the car into a ditch and causing considerable damage. The family left the next morning by train.
Arlene Brownlee daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Brownlee wed Kenneth L Hogemark son of K B Hogemark in a 2 pm ceremony at Big Timber Lutheran church The Rev Wm A Hood officiated before 100 guests White bows mums and candles decorated the church and reception The couple will live in Big Timber Both are employed at Bieber Feed and Grain The groom is a Korean War veteran and a Sweet Grass county high school graduate Out of town guests came from Helena Billings Hardin Livingston Manhattan and other towns.
Big Timber merchants stage Friendship Days Friday and Saturday with hundreds of dollars in door prizes and a free 2 PM matinee at the State Theatre. Registration is open to all over 14 without purchase, drawings at 5:30 PM at the Legion hall, and prize pickups at sponsoring businesses.
Mr and Mrs W Tyler of Chicago closed a deal to purchase the W B Spencer ranch on the Boulder including cattle and hay They plan to move here in June with their four children and take possession December 1 P R Cox will operate the ranch until then The Spencers also bought a farm at Fromberg their former home town.
Ballots for agricultural stabilization and conservation county committeemen in Sweet Grass County will be mailed November 21. Eligible producers must return ballots by December 5. Ballots list nominees and allow write-ins. voters mark five candidates. Ballots are mailed to farm owners tenants and sharecroppers of voting age participating in ASC programs.
Evangelist Rev Charles E Tilley conducts nightly revival services at the Church of God in Lewiston Idaho presenting the gospel in song and sermon. Tomorrow at 7 30 pm he speaks on The Eight Standards of True Religion and Sunday morning a dedication service for children is led by Rev Tilley followed by The Price of Your Soul Sunday evening.

A clarinet duet by Helen Brekke and Peggy Forster followed by a Barber Shop quartet by Edwin Webber Lee Barker Daniel Nevin and Donald Wulff and a quiz led by Lorents Grosfield with Dick Christ and Daniel Nevin as assistants. Elvis Presley appearances and an orchestra featuring Linda Clark Helen Brekke Peggy Forster Connie Stoessel Gary Refsland Walter Huyser Janice Nevin David Hood Ralph Wilson Dick Christ closed with Dance with Me Henry sung by Christy Palm and Donald Wulff. Gail Blare served as MC with a few mothers present. An eighth grade program is planned for Friday Nov 17 with Elvis and the orchestra.
Hans Tjaaland and Susie Magelssen were united in marriage Friday at the American Lutheran church in Livingston with Rev. Peder H. Waldum officiating. The couple were honored Sunday in Billings at the home of Ed Crossfield. The newlyweds returned home Tuesday after a Wyoming visit.
The Jaycees sponsor basketball for rural children from first through eighth grade with practice starting Sunday at 1 00 p m in the high school gym. Fran MacDonald leads the program and urges attendees to bring tennis shoes gym outfits and a permission slip signed by a parent. Louis Goosey moved into the lead in the annual high school back contest yesterday as his 203 pounder edged Herb Uhrich by half a pound in a close finish.
Howard M. Railing, 62, died of cancer in a Billings hospital Friday after a two week stay. Funeral services were held from Lettergren Chapel in Billings Tuesday with Rev. George Masuda officiating. Burial followed in Mountainview Cemetery beside his son, 1st Lt. Wm. M. Railing, killed in World War I. Railing, born November 26, 1893 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, moved to Montana in 1914 and settled in Billings. married Elizabeth S. Ross in Sheridan, Wyoming in 1915. worked as an automobile salesman and later owned a Bridger Creek ranch. Surviving are his widow, his mother Mrs. L. Snyder of San Bernardino, California, and a sister Mrs. Ruth Harned, also of San Bernardino.
Tope Strobel was re elected president of the Sweet Grass County Wool Growers association at a noon luncheon meeting yesterday at the American Legion hall. J G Johnson was re elected vice president F B Peterson secretary treasurer. Leif Anderson Bob Jarrett Erik Hammersmark Strobel and Johnson to the board of directors. Strobel Ludvig Allestad Clark Engle Carl Myrstol and Erik Hammersmark to the forest permittee committee. Three resolutions were adopted authorizing coyote control funds grasshopper control and wool incentive payments with existing limits. Evening lunch served at Moose hall and entertainment by the Goobecks.
About 65 relatives and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Upland at their Gibson community ranch 32 miles northeast of Big Timber to celebrate their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with a potluck dinner. Centerpiece featured white and purple mums and the cake was cut by Mrs. Julius Batstad of Billings and Mrs. Everett Messing. A silver purse was given by the group through Mrs. Ed Braaten. Arrangements were led by Mrs. Narcie Blair and Mrs. Braaten. The couple were married November 4, 1931 in Big Timber and have two daughters, Nyla and Mrs. Tom Kalberg of Harlowton. The Kalbergs hosted a dinner party in Harlowton the prior Saturday, joined by several locals.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Grosfield were honored Saturday night by the Kill Kare Klub at the Bridge School House for their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. The couple married October 31 1931 in Billings and lived on the Dugout ranch for fifteen years before moving to the Art Gow ranch. Their children Franklin a freshman at Montana State College and Elizabeth a local high school student attended. The club staged a mock wedding and featured vocal numbers and a solo with gifts and a decorated wedding cake baked by Mrs Sam Fredrickson.
Mr and Mrs W A Dempster announce the birth of daughter Rita Diane on November 11 at the Com hospital weighing six pounds thirteen ounces.
A public meeting elected E A Bieber W K Amery Wright Ewan Karl Bryan and Clive Haas to form a non profit corporation to lease and operate the Community hospital. They plan to apply to the county for a lease and replace the Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society which expires next March. Dr Vernon Standish supported keeping the $150 monthly payment in Sweet Grass county for reduced rates. Supt Lois Williams noted periodic deficits offset by good months.
One of the season’s few elk on the Main Boulder was shot by Charles Clayton Monday high on the mountain in the Main Boulder drainage. Charles Lamach joined him on the trip. The extract notes a successful hunt and confirms participants.
