Moose Lodge marked its fifth anniversary with a banquet and a scheduled program. Local members showcased past achievements and outlined future activities during the ceremony.
The Moose Family's S coal Lodge celebrated five years with a turkey supper at the Moose hall attended by about 258 guests including visitors from Billings Bozeman and Livingston. The event featured a candle blowing by Governor Bob Jarrett a tap dance by Audrey Berg and a five year report noting growth from 65 to 310 members. A civic awards presentation Charles Schuler and Lonnie Bryan received honors while musical numbers and a midnight lunch rounded out the night.
Mrs Anna Berg a longtime Big Timber resident died Tuesday afternoon after a long illness She was 93 and had been blind and bedridden in recent years Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church this afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev E E Tollefson officiating Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery
The Sheepherder business manager Jim Hash and assistants Margaret Anderson Evelyn Strand Jerry Christensen Jack Armstrong and Don O'Dell will canvass town business houses in days ahead to fund the high school annual. They propose pages sponsored by businesses to cut costs. Edith Engle edits the annual with Gertrude Stone and Harold Hammersmark assisting.
Three young visitors from Honduras Arthur or Buzzy Mueller Christine and Nicky arrived with their mother Mrs Charles Mueller for a couple of months with their grandparents Dr and Mrs L W Baskett in Anaconda. Charley Mueller a vice consul reports to Washington and will join snow soon.
Poem by H. S. Tool reflects wartime aspiration for freedom and peace. Emphasizes america as home of the free and brave, a nation where men may build a life free from tyranny and slavery. The verse envisions truth mercy and enduring peace guiding the world.
The Evangelical United Brethren Church observed its 25th anniversary dedication with Rev. C. L. Harris as guest speaker. Eight new members joined, 55 shared a church dinner, and a cornerstone sealing followed with a jar of commemorative items.
In Sweet Grass County the Republican slate won by large margins. D Ewart led in the congressional race 967 to 283, John E Henry treasurer 872 to 219, Leonard C Young in railroad and public service 815 to 331, Anderson county commissioner 830 to 447, Esp 704 to 579 for associate justice, and Walter Osborne sheriff 819 to 471. Roy Webber topped the ticket with 1141 complimentary votes. soldier bonus failed 526 to 524. Several county offices were unopposed.
Gilman Aller announces the annual finance campaign for the Yellowstone Valley council will begin at 7 30 a m Tuesday November 14 with an Early Bird breakfast at the Big Timber cafe. Captains Bob Tolson Orvin Flare Howie Forsythe Stan Jacobson Don Smart Max Officer Clive Haas Arne Petaja E A Bieber and Henry Klindt lead solicitation teams aiming to meet the county quota and support Boy Scout activities.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Braaten of Grey Cliff celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at the Lutheran parish hall. About 150 friends attended a pot-luck dinner for the couple and 17 relatives, with a program including toastmaster E. O. Overland, Rev. Tollefson, and Sigrid Tollefson. The event featured candles, pastel chrysanthemums, and a purse of silver service as a gift.
Four Livingston Lions Ted Stump Don Latch Earl Tucker and Morris Wold collected most loose dimes at a noon Lions club meeting. Stump announced the club would be guests at a party next Wednesday commemorating the twenty fifth birthday of the Big Timber organization. Gilman Aller said Boy Scout funds campaign plans were ready and an early bird breakfast set for next Tuesday at 7 30. Leo Knutti of Montana State College agriculture education discussed work with Yo Ag Instructor Scott Hoskinson and gifts to the group. A Sunbeam mixmaster was given by the children.
The Montana State Farm Bureau’s thirty first annual convention runs November 13 to 15 in Billings. Attendees include Sweet Grass County members led by Selmer Fotland and Jess Duncan with state officers and national speakers Roger Fleming and Herbert Livingston. Sessions cover commodity committees, legislative programs, Women’s Association activities, a music contest, receptions, and a banquet dance with officers elected on Wednesday. Convention HQ is the Commercial Club building.
Practically all business houses in Big Timber will close Saturday in observance of Armistice Day. The post office and courthouse will also be closed.
The Harmony Home Demonstration club met at Mrs. Bob McKenzies home with ten members present. They studied kitchen arrangements and discussed. A council meeting is planned at the courthouse in October. Mrs. Harry Wagner was welcomed as a new member. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Olaf Hauges home and will be a Christmas party.
