Crouse and Brandegee Manufacturing Company operates in Utica New York crafting tailored garments. The business profiles its skilled workers and steady production amid local industrial activity.
The trial of Ferdinand Obendorf for stealing 29 head of calves from G B Wilson of Two Dot ended with a guilty verdict and a one year sentence to the penitentiary. George Blake was convicted of cattle theft and received two years and six months at hard labor. Judge Henry warned rustlers to expect no mercy in future cases. The trials, conducted by County Attorney BE M Hall and R R Purcell, drew crowds to the courthouse. J A Stickley was fined for assault in the third degree, and Bloomington Land and Live Stock Co. won a $100 verdict against J C Farrington for trespass.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bailey were awakened Friday night by a line of visiting guests who came to congratulate them on 15 years of marriage. Among the tokens was a punch bowl from Mr. Bailey’s Montana Trading Co. associates.
Geo Hatch reports from his Crazies mine that a vein of galena at 50 to the ton has been found Monday. Drifting on the vein will determine width then an upraise to the shaft will give over one hundred feet of stoping ground. Hatch has built new quarters and expects to work all winter with outlook for the Big Timber canyon mineral belt to rank among Montana’s best by spring.
A Kansas City dispatch reports J B Orr principal of Central school burned while lighting a coal oil fire in the kitchen range and dying from injuries. Mrs Orr suffered burns while aiding him. Locally, people fear the victim may be J D Orr formerly of Big Timber schools despite initials difference.
Fire destroyed about 40 tons of hay owned by John Knox the sheepman on Bridger creek last Friday. A warrant was issued for neighbor Rasmus Siljgerd who faced a hearing the next day on arson charges. Judge Pound bound Siljgerd over to district court in $500 bail after witnesses testified.
Regular teachers examination to be held on November 29 and 30, 1901. The notice announces the two day testing period for qualified applicants.
