No injuries reported when Donald E. Penaluna of Chicago lost control on icy highway 14 miles east of Big Timber at 11 20 am. The car needed a wrecker but was not badly damaged.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Woodard of Reed Point observed their 25th wedding anniversary with a supper at the VFW hall and program and dance at the gymnasium. Over two hundred attended as family and friends organized prayers songs, readings, and a life story in verse.
Barry Curtis Cloyd of Billings and two passengers Carla Smith also of Billings escaped injury when Cloyd’s Triumph overturned seven miles west of town on Highway 10 Sunday at 11:25 AM. Patrolman Henthorn reported Cloyd was attempting to pass a car driven by Eugene C. McCommon of Livingston, which was following a truck. McCommon’s move around the truck forced Cloyd toward a barb pit and the small car ended on its top trapping the occupants until the vehicle was righted.
Mrs Inga Wullum was honored after Lutheran services with a parish hall celebration marking her 84th birthday. Friends hosted a pot luck dinner. gifts included a floral arrangement from Mr and Mrs Herbert Wullum. Out of town guests and local family joined for cake, songs, and readings in a warm community event.
Legionnaires and Auxiliary members marked the 46th birthday with a pot luck dinner and dancing at the Legion hall. Commander K. C. Jones received a lifetime membership certificate from Ernie Parker. Clem Stirn presided as master of ceremonies. music by the Mathes and Stone brothers and the Tromuds. over 100 celebrants attended.
Montana residents must obtain written permission from landowners before night jackrabbit hunting on private property. The rule, under HB 457 signed by Governor Babcock, makes it illegal to hunt jackrabbits on private land with artificial light without written consent from the landowner, lessee, or agent.
Reverend and Mrs Ben Knopp and their family plan to leave Monday by car for a new location in Omaha Nebraska Officials said the move was confirmed by a telephone call noting their anticipation of the relocation and new opportunities in the city
A special high school levy election will be held Saturday April 3 to consider a levy of about 1.2 mills. The levy would add to the regular 14 mill levy and raise around $6 253 for instructional costs maintenance and improvements. Polling places will be at each elementary school housing an annual school trustee election with the same hours.
The Big Timber eighth graders fell to Bridger 45 to 34 in the Jaycee tournament final at Red Lodge on Saturday night. Fuller led Big Timber with 21 points, while Teesdale led Bridger with 16. Eight teams competed, with Big Timber defeating Belfry and Red Lodge to reach the final and Roberts edging Fromberg for third.
Alan J. Lamb announces the promotion of Thomas G. Ellis from assistant district ranger on the Dillon district to district ranger of the Big Timber district, Gallatin National Forest. The transfer takes effect March 28 as Ellis and his wife Carla with their three children plan to move to Big Timber later this month.
Freshman Miss Carol Van Cleve of Duchesne College Omaha plays Joan in Saint Joan and Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire in the round production Play writes and Women showcasing Greek to modern works. Cast and director Mrs McIver prepared a tying narration with costumes by de Phyllis Diller’s designer. The show runs April 4 and 5.
Sweet Grass county farmers edge toward the March 26 signup deadline for the 1965 wheat and feed grain programs. About 80 percent of the county wheat allotment has been signed to date, with 8 050 of 10 005 acres enrolled and 971 acres cut from production for certificates and price support. Diversion in feed grain totals 417 acres with potential payments of 3345 dollars plus 16 cents per bushel price support and loan options on remaining base acreage. Farmers may substitute feed grains for wheat or vice versa when participating in both programs. questions should go to the local SCS office.
At Tinsley O'Dell The Big Timber Lutheran church on Saturday March 13 Miss Lois May O'Dell became the bride of Calvin Leo Tinsley in an 8 o'clock candlelight ceremony. Rev Ocee Johnson officiated with double ring vows before an altar of white chrysanthemums and blue pom-poms. Mrs Donald Anderson played nuptial selections as Mrs Gvend Maitland sang God Gave Me You Because The Lord's Prayer. The bride wore a nylon lace gown with flowing organza train and a bouffant veil, carrying a family heirloom pin of gold nuggets. (Continued on page eight).
A talk on observations from a Lowland Europe and Russia trip will be given at the Legion hall this evening. The event marks the 27th anniversary of the Farmers Service cooperative in Big Timber with a financial statement showing growth and progress. One director will be elected for a three year term and seven advisory board members will be named by stockholders.
The fourth annual Jayceen style show is scheduled for Saturday April 3 at 2 pm in the Lutheran parish hall. The event theme Knee Deep In Daisies will be reviewed by Mrs. Bill Fraser with co chairs Mrs. Dennis Beer and Mrs. Maurice Flanagan coordinating. Tickets are sold at Robbins Gust Anthony's and Solberg's.
Four candidates have filed for city offices to be decided at the April 5 city election. Incumbents John Murphy and Carl Monsness seek ward 2 alderman seats. Clarence Petaja runs for re election as ward 1 alderman, and Lyman Moulden for justice of the peace. Filing deadline is this Saturday, March 20, with petitions requiring 5 percent of registered voters’ signatures. alderman signers must come from their ward.
The Montanans Montana State College singing group led by Daniel Nelson will give a concert at Grass County High School on March 30 at 8 45 am. The nine stop spring tour includes Big Timber Columbus Laurel Montana and Lovell Powell Cody Greybull Basin and Worland Wyoming.
Mrs Alden spent six weeks with Dr Charles Bray and family in Seattle. Dr and Mrs George Bray met the plane in Bozeman to bring her home. They shared Sunday dinner at Jim Sperry’s before continuing. Mrs Alden found the Chuckie Bray family well and the Seattle weather cold and damp.
SGHS announces National Honor Society induction in the Margaret Deegan chapter under Principal A R Collins. Seniors Barbara Beck Connie Christ. Juniors Gwena McGehee Sophomores Latricia Ludwick qualify through leadership service character and scholarship with provisional status for some. Hold over members listed by class.
March 1 marked the opening of the 1965 Easter Seals campaign to fund services for Montana crippled children and adults. The drive runs through April 18 and funds statewide programs including a Great Falls rehabilitation center and Ellis speech and hearing units plus a Bibings center. Ninety percent of funds stay in state to support these efforts with ten percent to national society for research and education. Mrs. Donald Henke urges generous contributions to sustain the programs.
