Compensation fund to receive Montana unemployment money
Helena March 12 The Bureau of Internal Revenue has informed the Treasury Department that 650697.20 should be paid into Montana unemployment compensation trust fund from 1936 payroll excise tax collections and is before the Bureau of Budget for inclusion in the next deficiency appropriation bill. Senator Wheeler wired the unemployment compensation commission. This amount represents 90 percent of the tax collected from Montana employers of eight or more workers at 1 percent social security act payrolls in 1936. With this item plus 2100000 already collected for 1937 pay rolls the commission will have 2750000 for investment in U.S. government securities from its first year operations.

George Washington Cook 102 Dies at Home in Big Timber
George Washington Cook aged 102 died at his home on First avenue east near the underpass after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church at 2 30 Saturday afternoon with Rev A A Holbeck officiating. He was born February 22 1836 in Burlington county New Jersey and observed his 102nd birthday with pioneer friends in Big Timber. He moved west in 1877 and spent years in cattle ranching in Montana including Sweet Grass and Park counties and with 500 head of cattle at times.
