Cold Winter Of 1873 Described By Pioneer Five Families
Mr. Calklins recalls a Dakota winter near Fargo in 1873 where five families with wives lived communally in sod houses amid wolves and Indians. Thermometers froze and ice diamonds became a joke as the cold held from October to July, leaving no way to measure the exact temperature.

Ground Broken for Sweetgrass Creamery Plant
Ground was broken Monday for the foundation of the Sweetgrass Creamery Co plant and building work will proceed rapidly. Directors met Saturday naming J. W. Bailey as president R. B. Briggs as vice president Francis Irvine as treasurer and A. G. Hatch as secretary. By laws were approved and stockholders to be asked for ten percent on the stock to fund starting work.
