Stillwater County Bill Defeated in Montana Legislature

Helena March 2 The Stillwater county measure failed 16 to 0 amid protests led by Annin and Edwards Meyer and McDonnell argued against the plan noting Carbon county’s size and lack of unit support McDonnell called it a townsite scheme while Sweetgrass residents were largely opposed Annin argued it would ease water grade access for residents to Columbus despite distances to Billings Red Lodge and Big Timber

Enthusiastic Meeting of Big Timber Commercial Club

The Big Timber Commercial Club held a lively meeting with many business leaders present. Talks covered an alfalfa mill request from J R Chapin of Minneapolis Kansas, freight-rate talks with Northern Pacific officials, and high value of alfalfa meal. The club urged NP to add Big Timber to train No 1 schedule and to place a park on depot land. They also adopted a twice monthly meeting schedule and approved $10 dues for delegates who went to Helena against county division. S I Johnson of Glass Johnson Land Co urged aggressive local boosting and outlined his company’s role in attracting quality settlers to Sweet Grass County.

Methodists Prepare for Conference in Big Timber Next Week

The Big Timber Methodist Episcopal Church hosts the Montana conference’s Yellow Stone district next week presided by Rev. Charles D. Crouch. Rev. J. A. Meeke leads the local work in his second year, with sessions open to the public and plans for a new modern building after recent city-wide improvements.

Vaughan was impressed with Glasslands and intends to return to make his home there if his wife agrees to relocate west. He expects to bring several of his neighbors with him.

Death of James A. Mulkern in Phoenix Ariz

James A. Mulkern died of pulmonary disease in Phoenix on Sunday February 21. He lived in this city before moving to Washington and then Arizona. He leaves a wife two children and was insured for 1000 by the local M W A and carried 3000 more in insurance. The burial was in Dubuque Iowa where the family previously resided. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
