The state highway commission awarded road and bridge contracts exceeding 256 thousand dollars as part of the 1928 program, with work in Granite, Powell, Beaverhead, Madison, Silver Bow, Jefferson, Broadwater, Gallatin, Fergus, Rosebud, Custer, and Yellowstone counties. In Butte Montana a Civil War Spanish American and World War veterans encampment parade drew several thousand participants. Department Commander C F Adams of the G A R served as grand marshal. Billings was named encampment city for 1929 by Veterans of Foreign Wars. Colonel Quinlan and John T Raftis spoke at a joint Legion gathering.
