Forsyth reports Mrs. J. W. Johnston, 27, of Myers, died after a kerosene explosion while relighting a kitchen fire. The incident occurred Tuesday morning. she died Saturday at Forsyth hospital where she was treated after the blaze and her husband doused flames with bedding.
Gen Hugh S Johnson will lead federal works relief in New York City as works progress administrator. The appointment follows persistent push by Mayor LaGuardia and aligns with President Roosevelt’s aims after Johnson’s NRA tenure.
Mrs. Richard Parry died at Lott hospital in Livingston days after an operation. Rev A Roukema led the Evangelical church service crowded with friends. Burial was in Mountain View with pallbearers E A Bieber Peter York John Sage C W Ryan Robert Ryan. Emma Hanson Parry, born March 4 1890 in Downing Wisconsin, came to Montana eighteen years ago to teach, married Richard Parry in 1921, leaving husband and daughter Helen 12, parents and three brothers. Father and brother attended the funeral.
Mrs. Nellie Johnson died at the Dillon apartments after a lingering illness. Rev Fr Schuh of Columbus officiated Mass at St Josephs church and interment was at Mountain View beside her husband. Pallbearers were William Muir Jr Earl Green John Tobin George O Campbell J B Scyphers and Ed Thompson. She was born in Melville 38 years ago to Dan and Pat Lamey both deceased. She leaves five brothers and a sister Mrs Horn of St Paul along with three children Phyllis Irene and Donald.
Over the weekend at least 87 people died in automobile and motorcycle crashes in California Illinois and other states. In Virginia near Roanoke four Black victims perished in a head-on crash while a Denver man died after a plunge of his car off a 1000 foot embankment near Leadville. his wife survived with bruises.
Joe Louis from Detroit, age 21, overwhelmed Primo Carnera in six rounds at Yankee Stadium before about 70,000 fans. Louis knocked down the Italian multiple times, and referee Arthur Donovan stopped the bout two minutes 32 seconds into the sixth round. Chaffin suffered a fractured skull and concussion, Thatcher had possible spine injuries, and others had cuts and bruises.
W. C. Day, accused of stealing a horse two miles from Livingston and a saddle from Ole Langhus, was arrested by Sheriff Bartels after selling the outfit to Leo Cremer for 50 dollars with a check. Day was delayed at the bank until the sheriff arrived to arrest him and he was taken to Livingston by Sheriff Darroch of Park county.
Tacoma dispatch reports 6 ft tall Metz Waley, 21, received 45 years in federal prison for his part in the kidnapping and ransom scheme of George Hunt Wey erhaeuser, 9, heir to the Wey erhaeuser timber fortune. He received additional two years on a second count, to run concurrently. The case involved his wife Margaret, who pleaded for mercy after prosecutors said she had no knowledge of the crime.
John Marchion, 91, the last Grand Army man in Anaconda, was buried after a Sunday funeral attended by hundreds. Presbyterian services were held at his home with military honors from Anaconda, Butte and Helena veterans groups. Pallbearers from United Spanish War Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion joined a procession led by Col. G I Reiche and Ben Foley.
The state department said a high explosive package was tossed over a wall into a garden near the Mexican chancellery by Mexicans near the American Embassy in Mexico City. It broke several windows but caused no further damage and was not deemed serious.

William H. Crary, 85, a veteran of the Indian wars, died Thursday at the state soldiers' home in Columbia Falls. He served in the 15th and 19th infantry, fought in the Cheyenne and Kiowa campaigns, enlisted in 1866 at age 16, and was discharged as a sergeant in 1882. Funeral services were held Saturday at the soldiers' home chapel with interment in the home cemetery.
The Montana Supreme Court voided key parts of a 1927 tax deed law as violating due process. The decision involved Montana Mines & Power Co appealing Park County district court's title grant to Fred F. Holliday after delinquent taxes. The ruling remanded for further proceedings consistent with the court's finding of unconstitutional provisions.
A 22 year old Circle, Montana man, Louis Louden, was sentenced to 18 months in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a head on crash that killed his 19 year old sister Lillian Louise Louden. The judge noted intoxication and condemned drunken driving to protect the public. Five others were injured in the collision near Lindsay on June 15.
