Senate rejects amendment to widen WPA local costs
Washington June 21. Senate administration forces defeat an amendment to the $1.5 billion relief bill that would have required state and local communities to cover 25 percent to 40 percent of WPA project costs. The Robinson proposal for 25 percent failed 49–34. Byrnes’ 40 percent measure was also defeated 58–25 after a rare party split and speeches on fiscal strain.

Montana WPA Allocates 51500 For Cricket Control
Helena June 21 The Montana Works Progress Administration headquarters said an additional 51500 was allocated for Mormon cricket control in the state. Senator James E. Murray reported Roosevelt approved 125000 for the northwest campaign with 51500 allotted to Montana by the federal bureau of entomology. The funds will run the extermination effort to July 1, as 837 WPA workers are now on the project and 900 more will be added to reach 1773 total. Counties to receive workers include Big Horn Carbon Cascade Chouteau Fergus Golden Valley Judith Basin Lake Liberty Park Powder River Sanders Stillwater Sweet Grass Toole and Yellowstone.

Dave Baker, 52, Southern Pacific railway employee from Douglas Arizona, died of a heart attack at a lodge in Old Faithful camp about 3 a m Wednesday. The Baker party had arrived at West Yellowstone and planned to stay. a physician could not save him. The body was taken to Franzen funeral home and will be shipped to Deming New Mexico.

Funeral of Martin Opland Largest in Big Timber History
Martin Opland, a prominent Big Timber resident, died of bronchial pneumonia after an operation at Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota. His funeral drew crowds to the local Lutheran church with services at the ranch then the church. Burial was at Mountain View. He leaves six children and a wide circle of friends across the territory.
