Plans perfected for aiding wheat growers
Washington June 16 A thirty cents a bushel tax on wheat will be levied on wheat processors soon after July 1 to pay farmers 150 million dollars for agreements to reduce acreage. Secretary Wallace announced plans to distribute the money to farmers under the domestic allotment for contracts to cut acreage over the next two years. He estimated a 30 cent tax based on the farm marketing act formula and said payments would mostly be made by September 15 to aid business recovery and provide crop insurance against recent weather losses.
