Free Trappers bring 200 horses from California in bold raid
The legendary free trappers of the Rocky Mountains rode from Montana in a bold foray to California. Killbuck La Bonte and 14 mountain men faced deserts and dangerous tribes, seized 200 Spanish horses, sold them at Bent's Fort, then returned across the Rockies. They later reached Taos, clashed with Mexican locals, and retreated after a brutal taos confrontation.
