Largest Wool Clip Sells for 24 Cents a Pound

C M Bair and Rea Bros of Forsyth ship a record wool clip totaling about 2.5 million pounds sold to George Colby for Boston firm Hallowell Jones and Donald. Rumor says Bair and Rea received 24 cents per pound, with 1.5 million pounds owned by Bair. About 125 cars needed to haul to Boston. loading begins after shearing progresses.

Montana Press to Hold Convention at Hunters Hot Springs

The Montana Press association executive committee met in Butte and set the annual convention for August 27 and 28 at Hunter's Hot Springs. Business matters will be transacted during the gathering.

Large Land Tracts For Homesteads In Montana

A Washington dispatch reports Secretary of the Interior Ballinger designated 270000 acres in Montana under the 820 acre homestead law. The semi arid lands require dry farming, enabling settlers to farm 160 acres while storing moisture on the remaining quarter section to survive with 10 to 16 inches of annual rainfall.

Dead Sheep Pollute Waters of Dog Creek

A Monidah Trust Company injunction against Briggs-Ellis Sheep Company was upheld. Judge Henry fined the defendants 250 dollars for contempt of court after finding they polluted Dog Creek by dying sheep on its banks and grazing near the creek. The suit claimed water damage to a hotel and vegetation.

Beetle Fight Aimed At Snowy Mountain Forests

In Montana 1998 apple crop damage is linked to the apple scab fungus from cold moist blossoms. Bordeaux mixture and Petrocyanide testing are advised for control. Joseph Brunner leads a campaign against beetle devastation in the Snowy mountains with support from the Commercial Club and Montana delegation. Federal action ordered by Forester Pinchot targets beetle depredations statewide. Beaverhead and central Montana forests face similar threats with swift remedies planned.

The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in Big Timber Montana with Chair Geo A Leasby and Commissioners Rye Esp present.
