Fourth of July Celebration Planned Near Melville

The Eagle reports a patriotic celebration organized by neighbors north of Melville with a Big Timber Independent band, an oration by Attorney J. T. Vaughan, a ladies prepared dinner, and a large tent. Races include half mile, quarter mile dash, pony and saddle horse events, a broncho busting contest, greased pig catch, potato and egg races, plus a fireworks display and grand ball. Many locals plan to join Melville residents for the day.

Pioneers Voting Contest Offers Helena Trip to County Girls

Interest grows as county girls enter the Pioneers free trip contest to Helena. Candidates include Nellie Lamb Big Timber Ingrid Halvorson Groyelitf Miss Edna Bryan McLeod Clara Solberg Howie and Ida Christensen Melville with votes counted at Patterson's drug store. The contest closes June 27 at 9:00 am after two weeks of campaigning.

County Fathers in Quarterly Session at Big Timber Mont

The June 3 1907 quarterly meeting of the Board of County Commissioners in Big Timber examined road and poor fund bills. Officials present were H O Kellogg chairman John Rye and G A Leasby with Clerk C Allen. State vs Walker G noted.

County Board Actions and Road Petitions June 1907

The board adjourned and reconvened with full attendance to audit road fund bills and address erroneous assessments on Angora Goats and cattle. A petition by J A Post et al to abandon part of the Big Timber-Springdale road and construct a new road at no county cost was granted. Quarterly officer reports and road supervisor reports were approved.

The semi arid region of America is hailed as the coming agricultural frontier with scientific soil culture expanding farming across plains once deemed worthless. H W Campbell of Lincoln Neb leads model farm work and national interest grows as states and associations fund expanding experiments. A brief Sweet Grass county district court session also notes a divorce, a demurrer, and naturalization grants, with local business notices appended.
