George W. Parker, back from France, says he was not killed in a train wreck that injured him and led to a mistaken death report. A community roll listed him as dead, but bystanders affirmed he is alive and well. He plans to return to his Frazer Creek homestead and resume farming as he completes final proof of residence.
Malcolm Hunter is dead and William Kirkland is jailed for murder after a quarrel at the Kirkland ranch near Lismas twenty miles south of Glasgow along the Missouri river. A 30-30 rifle was used, Hunter shot in the face with bullet near the skull base. Kirkland surrendered after telephoning Sheriff Powell. the body was brought to Glasgow and motives remain undisclosed.
The War Department announces no training camps for civilians this summer. Charles A. B. Pike, chairman of the committee, informs the public that training stations or camps will not be established and advises civilians to seek other arrangements.
Four men are jailed on likely district court charges of resisting arrest after an incident with Sheriff Long and under sheriff Bass. Slivers Munson and three others allegedly assaulted officers at a downtown location, prompting a pursuit and a tense night. Dad Walker, knocked down thrice, wandered the street in distress as the melee unfolded.
In San Francisco a call was issued for a Republican conference on June 14 to launch a campaign for Senator Hiram W. Johnson for president. E C Arnold of Gilman gave an address on life at the front in France and Curtis L Mosher spoke for the federal reserve bank on banking activities financing the government. The meeting included ministers from Livingston Billings Hardin Bridger and other towns and adjourned with a dance.
In New York on June 7 Captain Adolph C. Teterson and his son face a federal court murder trial over the death of seaman Axel Hansen at sea. Defense cites mutiny claims and crew tensions while witnesses describe Hansen as an I. W. W. agitator. The jury could decide between second degree murder or manslaughter based on captaincy and seamanlike duties.
Cascade county will classify all lands with a $25,009 contract awarded to the Northwest Land Appraisers Association of Billings. The firm bid 1.58 dollars per acre. bids ranged to 37.10 cents per acre. Work will take about two years, starting within 30 days under H. B. Jones, president of the company.
Livingston June 6 extensive new operations have launched on claims near Bear Creek where 3,000,000 dollars in gold was previously extracted. The report notes renewed mining activity and potential returns in the district.
