Memorial Day Observances Draw 200 in Big Timber
Memorial Day events in Big Timber drew more than 200 participants and spectators. American Legion Post 19 led the parade at 10 a.m. with color guard and firing squad, followed by Sweet Grass High School band and veterans. Ceremony at the American Legion Hall featured Rev. Richard Kienitz and Rev. Eugene Nilsen, then a cemetery tribute with taps by George Savchenko. A wreath was laid at the Highway 191 bridge over the Yellowstone River.

In Sweet Grass County Tuesday turnout was 58.3 percent with Ronald Reagan defeating incumbent Gerald Ford 457 to 295 and no preference 20. Stan Burger won the Republican U S Senate nomination with 500 votes while David Drum 121, Jack Tierney 96, and Larry Gilbert 28 trailed. Bob Woodahl Antoinette Rosell led the governor lieutenant governor ticket 422 to 305. Scobes Marlenee led Second District Congress with 431 votes, while John Cavin had 138 and others trailed. Democratic results show Frank Church leading with 177, Carter 100, and other candidates far behind.

Koster Family Hurt In One Vehicle Crash East Of Big Timber
Six members of the Koster family were injured when a westbound vehicle’s bad pass forced their 1971 Bronco off Highway 10 two miles east of Big Timber. Bert Koster remained hospitalized with severe back injuries. others sustained facial injuries and broken ribs. The westbound driver fled.
