Congress passes defense bill with ROTC and training camp funding
The House approved a $302,585,646 measure after a partisan push by Republicans Tammany Hall and several insurgent Democrats. Provisions restore the C M T C and R O T C programs, permit reserve officers to be paid while on limited active duty, and would retire about two thousand veteran officers. Representative Barbour of California led the attack, citing President Hoover on preserving national defense. The final vote kept C M T C, rejected suspensions, and increased the bill by about 2.1 million in programs and pay.
