Laurel Scout Troop Takes Boat Trip Through Yellowstone
Explorer Troop 14 of Laurel led by Karl George stopped overnight in Big Timber en route from Livingston to Laurel. Keith Goman and Mackey Helsing, both 15, served as crew chiefs aboard a 14 foot aluminum boat. The trip covered about eight hours from Livingston with an overnight camp on an island in the Yellowstone River. The group trained prior to the voyage and endured several soaking waves before camping near the Yellowstone bridge.

Two Couples Honored At Anniversary Party
A double silver wedding anniversary celebration honored Mr. and Mrs. Benny Berg and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Strand at the Cherry Creek school near Shawmut on July 2 with about 170 attendees. A po' luck dinner, a mock wedding, and a program followed, and each couple received a silverware set. The Bergs married June 27, 1925, at Mrs. Berg's parents’ home nearby. they have eight children and reside at the same home. The Strands married July 25, 1925, in Big Timber. they have four children and three grandchildren, with most family present.

Funeral services were held for Tom Skjeggestad 48 at the Lowry funeral home. Skjeggestad, born in Norway August 15 1910, was found dead in his Butte home Saturday from a likely self inflicted gunshot. He was a noted sheepherder and camp tender and had become a naturalized citizen in 1939. He is survived by his parents in Norway and siblings, with relatives locally.
