A westbound North Coast Limited train near Springdale caught fire in the dining car after Big Timber, delaying service about thirty minutes. A man calling himself Dr A J Motherall, once of Deer Lodge, Montana, traveled from Melville to Big Timber and Billings, cashing fake checks for cash. Victims spread 50 to 60 dollars each while he posed as a practitioner then vanished, later found to be an ex convict with medical knowledge and no Livingston bank account.

Cows Hit by Passenger Train Near Town

A west pasture near town saw several cattle, including Swendson and Webster stock, struck by an east bound passenger train after the gate was opened. Swendson’s cow died shortly after and Webster’s cow suffered severe injuries with doubtful recovery.
