Missing Laurel man O L Montgomery found dead on Yellowstone River
O L Montgomery aged 52 of Laurel disappeared January 18 while fishing near Grey Cliff. His pickup and gear were found on the Bill Fraser ranch area and his body was recovered from an open icy pool along the Yellowstone River after searches by Sheriff Kenny Thompson and deputies.

Sweet Grass county unit of the T-Bone Cow Belles ran beef week events from January 24 to February 3 at Big T Super Market and Vaughn's Market with beef fondue snacks and coffee. Co chairs Mrs Carl Thompson and Mrs Herb Baylis led recipe giveaways and prize drawings for $6 and $3 beef certificates. Publicity chairman was Mrs Wright Ewan. Fishing regulations for 1971 were adopted by the Montana Fish and Game Commission, with a May 16 opener, year round fishing on open waters, and liberalized limits for several species.

First Births of 1971 at Sweet Grass Hospital
The twins Melissa Ann and Mitzi Dawn Bjorndal were the first babies born in 1971 at Sweet Grass Community Hospital. Melissa weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and Mitzi 6 pounds 11 ounces. The hospital guild awards a silver fork and spoon to each new year’s first baby. Melissa has received hers while Mitzi’s engraving is in progress.

Herder Wrestlers Extend Season With Wins Over Central Bills

Homer Wheeler longtime Big Timber resident died Wednesday afternoon of a heart attack while going to his car. Services were held Monday at 1 p.m. from Bullis Funeral Home, with interment at Custer National Cemetery. A fuller obituary will follow.
