Nagle clarifies school district questions in Helena
Attorney General Nagle concludes that when a district splits the indebtedness is shared by the new districts in proportion to the value of school property. If the old district cannot pay, a levy may still be placed on the severed territory. He also says trustees cannot hire a principal six months after term end, and that a district with resident parents is the children's residence. The divorced mother's residence determines custody of her minor children.

Columbus Sandage a respected resident of the Seven Mile area for 14 years died Tuesday night at his ranch home of chronic pericarditis. Funeral services were held at the ranch with Elder Thorbein of Deer Lodge officiating. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery. He was born in Indiana 57 years ago and is survived by a widow, a son Forrest, a brother in Absarokee, and two brothers and two sisters in Missouri.

Victor Three Irons Victim of Tire Iron Assault
Crow Indian Victor Three Irons of Crow Agency sustained a fractured skull after an attack with a tire iron last week. Oliver C. Cusick, now of Hardin, is charged with the crime and held on $1,500 bond after pleading not guilty in district court. Malta Hotel Owner Dies From Auto Smash Injuries
William Barwarth, owner and manager of the Fifth Avenue hotel in Malta, dies from injuries after a car accident on the Roosevelt highway Saturday night. He and his son William Jr and Miss Mildred Coon were returning from Havre. the son and Miss Coon were uninjured. John B. Sloan 73 veteran cattleman of Gallatin country and Montana resident since 1865 died after a lingering illness in Great Falls. Sloan came up the Missouri River by steamboat settled at Helena then Boulder and engaged in the livestock business near Logan for 45 years.
