Oil company Cities Service spudded a 147 feet deep start in a 10 000 foot test on the south flank of the Shawmut anticline in extreme southern Wheatland county. The Sault Ste. Marie 1437th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company trained Canadian engineers on American soil at Fort Lewis Washington. Sgt Frank Smith and M Sgt Oscar Fallang led the bridge training cadre renowned for top performance. The unit also completed Battle Indoctrination courses including infiltration, close combat and combat in cities. Mary Elizabeth Deeney Dies After Stroke at Reed Point Ranch
Mary Elizabeth Deeney, 79, died early Saturday at the Community hospital after a stroke at her Reed Point ranch. A Pennsylvania native and Reed Point pioneer, she was married to B. T. Deeney and lived on the ranch since 1900. Funeral services were at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Columbus with Fr. Kelly and Fr. O’Rourke officiating. burial in Columbus cemetery. She is survived by her husband, four sons, two daughters, three sisters, and eight grandchildren.

Flushed by two victories over tough teams last weekend the Sheepherders will avenge earlier losses on the local court Friday and Saturday. Friday they meet the Harlowton Engineers who won at Harlo last week. Saturday they host Dillon which also leads the Sheepherders this year. Coach Deegan's Lions meet Absarokee in the Dillon preliminary. The other preliminary is TBD.
