Milwaukee Road plans aggressive push to coast with new auxiliaries
The Milwaukee road filed articles of incorporation for three auxiliary firms The Western Townsite Co of Montana The Enterprise Land and Improvement Co and a Coal Company. Founders include Burton Hanson George F Shelton and Thomas Allen of Butte. Hanson says the units aim to develop lands and towns along the line to spur immigration and rural industry, not just profit, preventing land monopoly and keeping prices fair to promote rail traffic.
